Best Family Hiking Trips For Young Children

Hiking is the perfect way to experience the joy of nature firsthand. It’s also a great way to get exercise and spend quality time with the ones you love. While there are many easy hiking trails out there, not every single one is suitable for kids. We’ve rounded up a few of the best family hiking trips for those with young children in tow.

Zion National Park, Utah

Zion National Park is known for its spectacular hiking trails, colorful scenery and intriguing slot canyons. Located in southern Utah, discover the breathtaking views that over 4.5 million visitors soaked in last year. Visit in the fall or spring when the weather is just right and embark on the Riverside Walk, a one-mile flat trail that is also wheelchair accessible.

Big Bend National Park, Texas

For another short but scenic trail, check out Santa Elena Canyon Trail located within Big Bend National Park. Walk along the Texas and Mexico border while gazing upon the winding Rio Grande. You may even get the chance to spot a road runner or two…which could make a fun counting game for the young ones. Plan your stay at Big Bend Resort & Adventures for more opportunities to spend time with the family.

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming/Montana

Arguably one of our favorite national parks to bring family members of all ages to is Yellowstone, located on the border of Wyoming and Montana. From witnessing geysers like “Old Faithful” erupt, to spotting large mammals like moose, bison and elk in the distance, Yellowstone is unlike any other national park in the world. We recommend taking your family to hike the 5-mile Beaver Pond Loop Trail while you’re there.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Take a trip to Jackson Hole in the summertime, and you’re in for a real treat. Families with young children love to seek out the waterfalls and crater lakes that are abundant throughout Grand Teton National Park. Make sure to check out Cascade Canyon Trail, a fairly easy hike that ends in a great waterfall view. If you’re looking for even more adventure, but don’t know where to go, consider booking a guided hiking tour with Scenic Safaris.

At Forever Resorts, we love outdoor adventure just as much as you do! For more ideas on where to take your family hiking this year, check out our website.
