An Epic Spring Break Road Trip Through the Southwest
Planning a spring break road trip soon? You’re not alone! If recent trends continue, families are more likely to hit the road this year than ever before. But where should you go? Don’t worry, we’ve got just the route for your next adventure. Discover what the enchanting Southwest has to offer by visiting these four destinations within driving distance of Parry Lodge and the Grand Canyon Lodge.
Stop # 1: Bryce Canyon
Start your adventure off in Utah by visiting Bryce Canyon National Park, where you’ll get to witness the largest collection of “hoodoos” in the world! These seemingly impossible rock pillars, formed by weathering and erosion, stand starkly against the desert sky in vibrant hues of red, orange, and white. They’re an amazing sight to see.
The scenic 38-mile drive through Bryce Canyon has 13 different viewpoints, each offering a uniquely stunning vista. The trek averages three hours from start to finish, and you can drive your own vehicle into the park year-round. If you would like to see the hoodoos up a bit closer, Bryce Canyon also features several self-guided walks and day hikes.
Stop # 2: Zion National Park
Travel 80 minutes south on US-89 from Stop # 1 and you’ll end up at Zion National Park. Steep red rock cliffs, breathtaking waterfalls and hanging gardens make Zion one of America’s Top 10 most visited National Parks. The popular Emerald Pools Trail and Weeping Rock Trail are among the easiest day hikes if you’re looking to get out from behind the wheel. Otherwise, the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is the perfect way to snap Instagram pics and continue your road trip without having to slow your roll.
Stop # 3: Lake Powell
From Zion, continue south for a little over 90 minutes on US-89 towards Lake Powell in Arizona. During this stretch, you’ll pass through Kanab, Utah where Parry Lodge (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) is located.
After you’ve rested up for a day or two at the lodge, continue your journey south on US-89 until you’ve crossed the Utah-Arizona border at Lake Powell. Once at Lake Powell, enjoy a day on the water by renting a watercraft or taking a swim. Have more time to visit the lake? Consider booking a houseboat vacation.
Stop # 4: Grand Canyon North Rim
If the first three stops weren’t enough, top off your spring break road trip at the Grand Canyon North Rim. Here, you’ll be awe-struck by vast canyons and the most remarkable sunsets you’ve ever laid eyes on. The Grand Canyon offers plenty of hiking and photo opportunities to keep you busy all afternoon. After a long day of sightseeing, cozy up at the Grand Canyon Lodge to experience peace and comfort as you wrap up your road trip through the Southwest.
