Every Kid in a Park Art Contest
The National Park Service is turning 100 this year and they have celebrated with the Every Kid in a Park Art Contest here at Lake Mead! Along with the Clark County School District School-Community Partnership Office and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, students from the school district were encouraged to create an image that displayed the beautiful park lands of Southern Nevada and the National Park Service’s Every Kid in a Park Centennial theme.
Students in each category (Pre-K to grade 2, grades 3 – 5, grades 6 – 8, and grades 9 – 12) were eligible for first-, second-, and third-place prizes as well as a grand prize that was awarded to Rebekah Solorzano from Chaparral High School in Las Vegas.
As the grand prize winner, Rebekah will have her image (pictured right) printed on collectible stickers that will be sold at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area’s visitor center store and all proceeds will benefit Lake Mead. Additionally, Rebekah has her choice of a 4-day, 3-night houseboat vacation with her family at Callville Bay Resorts and Marina or Cottonwood Cove Resort and Marina.
The additional winners of the contest will be receiving separate prizes: first place will head out to Black Canyon River Adventures for a tour on the Colorado River with a family four-pack of tickets and second- and third-place winners received two tickets for a raft tour as well.
